
Pointe Claire lies in that sleepy part of Montreal's West Island. For those who don't know, the name tend to think it's a isolated island to the west of Montreal In reality, it's a part of the city that's west. West Island is home to everything from the city of Lachine west. It is often cited as the place where Amanda Brugel was born. Amanda Brugel, but while it's true, her stay there was not long. Brugel lived in Courtice in the city of Oshawa, Ontario. Her early ambition was to become a professional dancer but a growth spurt meant that she was able to outgrow her dance partner. According to an article from The Toronto Star, she confessed, "In heels I am 6 foot 1 inch." When I grew out of the male colleagues I was dancing with, I decided to quit. A lot of former dancers go into acting. As in Brugel's case she was urged to do so by an instructor of drama in the high school. It was her teacher who encouraged her to try out in the role of Anne for their school's annual production. She tried out and got the role of lead on the show Anne of Green Gables. This led to a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theater Program and graduated with her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the 20+ years since, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows both on small and big screens. Her most notable role attracted interest when she was offered her role as Rita on the award-winning TV series, The Handmaid's Tale
